Well, whadda ya know?
Was just sitting here talking to my co-worker about Charlton Heston and she mentioned The Omega Man. I said, “That Will Smith movie – I Am Legend – reminded me of The Omega Man!”
She said they both were based on the same book. So, went to IMDB and, sure enough, they were the same book, actually called “I Am Legend.”
In Richard Matheson’s book and Heston’s movie, though, no cannibals. Just pasty people living underground, paranoid psycho survivor mutants from a biological war and Heston the only recipient of a special vaccine making him immune. So, alike – but different.
It’s been 20-30 years since I’ve seen The Omega Man. Pretty good memory for a woman who can’t find her car keys, most days.
