Mightier than the Sword. . .

Religious freedom means freedom to abstain, as well

Once in awhile a Democrat hauls-up and makes me cringe. Sure, in relation to how often a Republican makes me spit-take or hurl lunch with some inane bit of verbal jackassery, it’s as rare as Haley’s Comet. Yet, exist it does. Case in point: member of the Illinois lege, Monique Davis’ comments to a nearby athiest:

What you have to spew and spread is extremely dangerous . . . it’s dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists! This is the Land of Lincoln, where people believe in God. Get out of that seat . . . You have no right to be here! We believe in something. You believe in destroying!”

Back off, Sister Sledgehammer!

Religious tolerance is a pointless phrase without including tolerance of the non-religious. What happened to agreeing to disagree and leaving it there? Who died and made you God’s PR person?

You’re a Democrat, for goodness sake. Your mien should be all about live and let live. When Jesus said we weren’t supposed to be lukewarm, I don’t think He meant we were supposed to breathe fire at people during committee meetings on the House floor.

Oy. I like it no better seeing it come out of my own party. That’s honest, even though I admit to cringing more when it’s one of ours. With Republicans, I’ve just come to expect kooky religious comments bandied about; the bar has fallen just that low. With Democrats, it stings to see an attack based on someone’s religious beliefs, or lack thereof.

On the plus side, she made it to Olbermann’s Worst Person list, last night – knocking BillO and Coultergeist right out!
